The Abbeville Panthers had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 72-60 victory over Dixie on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Abbeville can attribute much of their success to Jakwon Elmore, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Jd Baylor was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Abbeville's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. As for Dixie, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Abbeville will be home for the holidays to greet Belton-Honea Path at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dixie, they will head out on the road to face off against Brashier Middle College Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brashier Middle College Charter is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
