Basketball Recap: Naiy'lah Crutchfield Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Eleanor Roosevelt

Douglass lost to Eleanor Roosevelt back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Douglass Eagles walked away with a 63-56 victory over the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Douglass' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Naiy'Lah Crutchfield, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Douglass is undefeated when Crutchfield posts ten or more rebounds, but 3-4 otherwise. Anaiya Morrison was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Douglass was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eleanor Roosevelt only racked up eight assists.

Despite the defeat, Eleanor Roosevelt saw an underclassman step up: sophomore McKenzie D'Antignac went 10 of 20 en route to 20 points and seven boards. D'Antignac is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Camille Brandon, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Douglass has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglass will venture away from home to challenge Fairmont Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Douglass is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.5 points per game this season. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, they are taking a road trip to square off against Parkdale at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Eleanor Roosevelt has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 179 points over their last three matchups.
