Make it eight blowout wins for the Rapides Mustangs this season. They blew past Harrisonburg 68-13 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Rapides has managed all season.
Rapides' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christopher Newton led the charge by scoring ten points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwon Jones, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Colton Crum and Laine Dupuis certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Crum scored six points along with five rebounds, while Dupuis scored two points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Dupuis is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Harrisonburg struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rapides racked up 16 assists.
Rapides' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Harrisonburg, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Rapides will be playing in front of their home fans against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grant is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Harrisonburg, they will head out on the road to square off against Monterey at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
