The Rossville Hornets will head out to square off against the Eastern Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Rossville's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Clinton Central 10-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.
Jillian Morris tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addi Gorbett was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Paschal, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Rossville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clinton Central struck out six times.
Eastern hadn't beaten Clinton Central on the road since May 20, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Comets put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 18-5 victory. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Ava Roberson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Eastern got a massive performance out of Elle Winger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two triples, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave Winger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emillia Andrews, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Rossville now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Eastern, their record is now 3-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rossville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .366. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Rossville's way against Eastern in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Rossville made off with a 23-0 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
