Durango had won three straight at home, but on Saturday they bumped their record up to 13-6 to make it four. They came out on top against the Montrose Red Hawks by a score of 8-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-7 on Friday.
Dawson McInnes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Austin Romero was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Duncan Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
As for Montrose, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.
On Montrose's side, Brekin Hutto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Jayce England made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Durango is set to take on their familiar foe Palisade at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Montrose will square off against rival Grand Junction Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
