Jamarcus Revies with 1:00 to go in the fourth quarter to upset
Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, Miss.) 24-21 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Kirk McCarty touchdown pass to
Logan Scott, the Warriors went into halftime with a 14-0 lead. The Panthers took the lead for good with a Barkurn touchdown pass to Revies in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 10 points in the third, Petal still trailed by 11 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped PHS pull out the victory.
The loss snapped Oak Grove's 5-game winning streak.
McCarty played well for OG. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
Barkurn was the top performer for the Panthers. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
A 54-37 Petal victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Oak Grove defeated Forest Hill 31-0 last week. With the win PHS extended its winning streak to four games.
Petal (5-1) will play a 6A Region 3 game against Brandon next week, while Oak Grove (5-1) will take on Meridian also in a 6A Region 3 game.
