Christopher Alcaraz had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 211 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 70 yards and one score on only six carries. What's more, he racked up 162 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August. Maurico Rodriguez was another key player, picking up 104 receiving yards and four TDs.
Borrego Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Preston Sexton and Josef Rocha. Rocha is also on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Joseph Academy). They blew past Francis Parker, posting a 64-16 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Crusaders' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Lancers are ranked 49th).
Borrego Springs better keep an eye on Blaise McMahon. He was instrumental in St. Joseph Academy's win, rushing for 208 yards and four scores on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Josh Clow, who rushed for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Joseph Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 368 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Francis Parker only rushed for 133.
Borrego Springs' record is now 9-1. As for St. Joseph Academy, their record now sits at an identical 9-1.
Borrego Springs took a serious blow against St. Joseph Academy when the teams last played back in October, falling 48-20. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Crusaders' Asher Larkin, who rushed for 206 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries. Now that the Rams know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
