Basketball Game Preview: Seton Catholic Sentinels vs. Florence Gophers

The Seton Catholic Sentinels will square off against the Florence Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Seton Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Thatcher on Saturday. Seton Catholic walked away with a 56-49 victory over Thatcher.

Seton Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dylan Alvidrez out in front who went 6 for 8 on his way to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Alvidrez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Morris, who posted 13 points.

Meanwhile, Florence put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 66-62 victory over Snowflake. Given the Gophers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Lobos are ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Florence found their leader in sophomore Brody Ramirez, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 30 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Taufaasau, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points.

Seton Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Florence, their win bumped their record up to 14-0.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Seton Catholic has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Seton Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Florence when the teams last played back in November of 2017, but they still walked away with a 72-66 victory.
