The Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays will challenge the West Shamokin Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Conemaugh Valley is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Conemaugh Valley came out on top against Northern Cambria on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Blue Jays were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Colts. The Blue Jays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.
Conemaugh Valley let Katie Ledwich and Kylee Ferguson run wild. Ledwich went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Ferguson went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Laine Poborski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Conemaugh Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Cambria only posted an OBP of .208.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Shamokin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Marion Center 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Malena Stewart and Cameron Vandervort did most of the damage at the plate: Stewart went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Vandervort went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Zoe Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Shamokin pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Conemaugh Valley, their record is now 15-5.
Both Conemaugh Valley and West Shamokin just can't seem to miss. The Blue Jays have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like West Shamokin struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Conemaugh Valley might still be hurting after the 18-7 loss they got from West Shamokin in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Blue Jays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
