Given Madisonville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Palestine is ranked 614th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madisonville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olyvia Brooks, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Brooks hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Quin'eysia Shaffer, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Madisonville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. As for Palestine, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 16 of their last 20 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.
Madisonville will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hudson at 6:00 p.m. As for Palestine, they will head out on the road to challenge Rusk at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Rusk has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9.
