Basketball Recap: 12 Straight Road Victories for Wise

Wise posted their closest win since February 13, 2024 on Monday. They skirted past the Laurel Spartans 84-81. The score was all tied up 45-45 at the break, but the Pumas were the better team in the second half.

Wise's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayson Frost led the charge by going 7 for 8 on his way to 21 points along with seven assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Frost a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Hargrove, who went 8 of 10 en route to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and six blocks.

Frost wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Wise was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laurel only posted six assists.

Laurel's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jermaine Taylor, who went 9 for 21 on his way to 26 points along with seven boards and three steals. The matchup was Taylor's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Amadou Kaloga was another key player, going 8 of 16 en route to 23 points.

Wise pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Laurel, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 9-2 record.

Wise has already played their next game, a 95-54 win against High Point on the 28th. As for Laurel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 87-51 victory against Parkdale on the 28th.
