Colleton County is 0-7 against May River since November of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will challenge the Sharks at 7:30 p.m. Colleton County has given up an average of 35.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Colleton County's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Stratford last Friday. They were outmatched by the Knights and fell 51-0. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Knights are ranked 25th).
Meanwhile, May River entered their tilt with Georgetown on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 38-0 shutout. The game marked the Sharks' most dominant win of the season so far.
Colleton County better keep an eye on Sean Mitchell. He was instrumental in May River's win, rushing for 206 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also catching one touchdown. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Mitchell a new career-high. Justin Head was another key player, rushing for 63 yards and one TD on only five carries.
May River was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 335 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
One reason for the win was May River's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Zavier Polite refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks, making ten total tackles (5.5 for loss), and defending one pass.
May River's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Colleton County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Colleton County was dealt a bruising 42-6 defeat at the hands of May River in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Cougars were down 21-0.
