Baseball Recap: Fayetteville Street Christian Has No Trouble Against Shining Light Academy

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Fayetteville Street Christian brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 19-6 margin over the Shining Light Academy Knights on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Connor Allred was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Allred was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Fayetteville Street Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Thornsbury, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Fayetteville Street Christian is 3-1 when Thornsbury posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Malachi Bush, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Fayetteville Street Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory snapped Fayetteville Street Christian's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-7 record. As for Shining Light Academy, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
