The Ponca Indians were the 56-24 winner over the Homer Knights when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Ponca fell 48-35 to Homer on Friday. Ponca has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ponca's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Korth, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Voss, who scored five points.
Ponca struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Homer racked up 13 assists.
Alexandra Albrecht continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Homer, scoring 22 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Hightree, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Ponca's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.6 points per game. As for Homer, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season.
Ponca does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Homer, they will face off against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Laurel-Concord-Coleridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Thursday.
