Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Chesterton's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

Chesterton's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Portage Indians as they made off with a 7-1 victory. Considering the Trojans have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Payton Cherep spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Oliva Milton, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Florian, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chesterton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chesterton has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Portage, they dropped their record down to 8-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
