It was a good run, but the Falcon Falcons unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to The Classical Academy. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Falcon in their matchups with The Classical Academy: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Macey Fothergill, who scored nine points along with three steals. Fothergill is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Karly Ohlrich, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
The Classical Academy had a senior duo take command as Alaina Bonacquista scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five steals and Mairin Carpenter scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bonacquista has scored at least a third of The Classical Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Delaney, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Falcon's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for The Classical Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Falcon will take on Sand Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sand Creek is coming into the matchup with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Falcon will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for The Classical Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Mitchell at 5:30 p.m. Mitchell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while The Classical Academy is ranked 102nd).
