Dekaney is 0-10 against Spring since March of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Dekaney managed to slip by Eisenhower the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Eagles on Tuesday, falling 16-10.
AaLiyah Benitez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathanly Cardona, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Spring had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Generals. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Spring let Maleah Grounds and Hailey Jones-Calais run wild. Grounds went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Jones-Calais went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Grounds has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Angelina Rios, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive games.
Spring's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Dekaney, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dekaney has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .684. However, it's not like Spring struggles in that department as they've averaged .589. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dekaney might still be hurting after the 28-0 defeat they got from Spring in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
