Russell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Lexington Catholic Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Russell rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past Bourbon County, posting a 42-8 win at home. Russell pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Bourbon County cut but never quite recovered from.
Ethan Pack continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 65 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes. Parker Mitchell was in the mix as well, providing Russell with two touchdowns.
Russell's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. In that department, Calvin Dickens was the leader with 2.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic entered their tilt with West Carter with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Lexington Catholic didn't even let West Carter onto the board and left with a 51-0 win on Friday. Given Lexington Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while West Carter is ranked 161st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 7-4.
