Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Amarillo

Amarillo entered their tilt with Monterey on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Plainsmen by a score of 11-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 25-2 back in March.

Mykaela Samuels made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Brianna Cloud was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Braylee Shuffield was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Amarillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in three consecutive games.

Amarillo's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monterey, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-10.

Coincidentally, Amarillo and Monterey will both be playing Lubbock-Cooper the next time they take the field. The Plainsmen will host the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Sandies will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
