There's no place like home for St. Michael, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 51-14 win over the Savio Eagles. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
It was another big night for Nico Anderson, who threw for 243 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also punched in two scores on the ground. St. Michael's is 2-1 when Anderson posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Ian Quinn got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
St. Michael's didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Garcia and Quinn. Garcia has been hot recently, having also posted at least one defended passe the last three times he's played. Quinn got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for St. Michael's, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Pierce Kovacs, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Savio still got an impressive performance from Ethan Ubias, who rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. Ubias also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss). Patrick Engesser was another key player, picking up 104 receiving yards and one score.
The win got St. Michael's back to even at 4-4. As for Savio, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
St. Michael's didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-6 loss against St. Thomas Catholic on the 31st. As for Savio, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th.
