The Oakwood Comets will head out on the road to square off against the Fisher Bunnies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Oakwood turned things around against Danville on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Comets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Carsen Dudley was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Brandt Hobick also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Oakwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Fisher and Cissna Park, and Fisher kept the tradition alive. Fisher was the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Cissna Park on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bunnies have posted against the Timberwolves since March 22, 2016.
Jaymz Hammock made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up three earned runs but no hits. Hammock was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse Arndt, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Weston Ensign was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Oakwood's record now sits at 2-3. As for Fisher, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Oakwood skirted past Fisher 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oakwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
