The Heyworth Hornets will face off against the Cornerstone Christian Cyclones at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Heyworth's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Cornerstone Christian has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
On Monday, Heyworth earned a 7-3 win over Peoria Christian.
Carter Brooks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Brooks was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Boston Katz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Denning, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Heyworth hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Delavan on Saturday and fell 6-5.
Josh Kursell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Cornerstone Christian: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Cooper Knapp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Cornerstone Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Heyworth, their victory bumped their record up to 18-14.
Heyworth took their win against Cornerstone Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Cyclones have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
