Wagner has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Burke Cougars at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Wagner will be strutting in after a victory while Burke will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Wagner has not done well against O'Neill recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Wagner snuck past O'Neill with a 63-57 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Burke's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 63-43 defeat at the hands of Centerville. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Burke has scored all season.
Wagner now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Burke, they bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Wagner against Burke when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 68-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wagner since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
