Fairmont Senior has gone 9-1 against Robert C. Byrd recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Polar Bears will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fairmont Senior saw some tournament action on Saturday. They blew past East Hardy 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Polar Bears.
Cole Sammons was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Sammons was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Cam Peschl and Bigelow Trevor did most of the damage at the plate: Peschl got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Trevor went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Peschl is on a roll when it comes to triples, as he's now hit at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Logan Canfield was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Robert C. Byrd waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Yellowjackets as they made off with a 13-7 victory. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly six runs.
Logan Frum looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Xavier Carvelli, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Floyd, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Robert C. Byrd always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Robert C. Byrd pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Fairmont Senior, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fairmont Senior has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Robert C. Byrd struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
