Baseball Game Preview: Solebury Spartans vs. Academy of the New Church Lions

The Solebury Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Academy of the New Church Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

On Thursday, Solebury didn't have quite enough to beat Community Academy of Philadelphia and fell 9-8. The Spartans have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Bryan Bassler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Jackson Freer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Academy of the New Church made sure to put some runs up on the board against Community Academy of Philadelphia two weeks ago. The Lions put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 17-6 win.

The team relied heavily on Joey Kimenour, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Josh Leavelsly, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Academy of the New Church always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .583 that Community Academy of Philadelphia posted.

Solebury's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Academy of the New Church, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Solebury took their victory against Academy of the New Church in their previous meeting back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
