Mountlake Terrace is 0-7 against Snohomish since April of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Mountlake Terrace is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Mountlake Terrace fell victim to Cascade and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Bruins. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Mountlake Terrace saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Stokes, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, while Snohomish put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Stanwood. The Panthers put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won nine in a row.
Abby Edwards was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emery Post, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Rhys Doyle was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Snohomish was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stanwood only posted a batting average of .000.
Snohomish's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Mountlake Terrace, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mountlake Terrace has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Snohomish struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mountlake Terrace suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Snohomish when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
