It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Salmen Spartans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They escaped with a win against Fontainebleau by the margin of a single free throw, 53-52. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Salmen also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Destiny Bennett continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. She set a new season high mark in steals with five. The team also got some help courtesy of Akayla Mcmooain, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Loss or not, Fontainebleau got some senior leadership from Brooklynne Callahan who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds and Isabelle Chevalier who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Callahan scored a full 48.1% of Fontainebleau's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Salmen is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Fontainebleau, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5.
Salmen will head out on the road to face off against Slidell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fontainebleau, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Denham Springs at 6:00 p.m. Denham Springs is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
