The Avon Orioles will face off against the Brownsburg Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Avon comes in on four and Brownsburg on three.
Avon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Plainfield, sneaking past 6-5.
Carter Beck looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Pennington, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Bland, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brownsburg). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Ben Davis on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Jackson Lambert looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Colin McNeer and Drew Bostic did most of the damage at the plate: McNeer got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs, while Bostic went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those triples marked the first that McNeer has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Greathouse, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Brownsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Davis only posted a batting average of .235.
Brownsburg's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Avon, their win bumped their record up to 20-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Avon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brownsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Avon couldn't quite get it done against Brownsburg when the teams last played back in May as they fell 6-1. Can the Orioles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
