South Putnam has gone a perfect 4-0 against Brown County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. South Putnam is taking a road trip to take on Brown County at 5:30 p.m. South Putnam will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
It was a Battle of the Birds when South Putnam challenged North Central on Friday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Pingleton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, South Putnam let Elliana Cox and Danae Cline run wild. Cox got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Cline got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Cline has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Pepper Rice, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
South Putnam always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Brown County lost 13-6 to West Vigo on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost six in a row.
Brown County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Sanders, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Maelyn Bowling was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.
South Putnam's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brown County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Brown County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Putnam has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Brown County, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given South Putnam's sizable advantage in that area, Brown County will need to find a way to close that gap.
South Putnam took their victory against Brown County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Putnam since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
