Westfield has gone 8-2 against Chantilly recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Chargers at 6:30 p.m. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Westfield couldn't beat South Lakes on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Bulldogs took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seahawks. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Morgan Mills put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Mills was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Rylee Schmid was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Ciara Ramsey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, Chantilly brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over Centreville on Friday. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Westfield, Chantilly also got a great game from a two-way player: Bella Eig. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Eig has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ellie Whiteman was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Natalie Tamerjan also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Chantilly's record is now 5-9. As for Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Chantilly's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Chantilly, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Westfield's hitters?
Westfield took their victory against Chantilly when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
