Mission Trail (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013
Pinewood was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in Mission Trail (8 Man). The Panthers defeated Crystal Springs Uplands 46-18 earlier in the week.
Trinity Christian added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Alma Heights Christian, 50-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Warriors.
Aric Maalona made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Eagles lost to Trinity Christian. The 6-foot-3 sophomore.
Micheal Alcaraz threw for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Matt Novak was the best wideout in the league this week as Frank Leonard's team topped Alma Heights Christian. Novak tallied 7 receptions for 72 yards. Dre Perez helped Trinity Christian's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.
The Warriors' Alcaraz and Novak led Mission Trail (8 Man) in both passing and receiving yards. Alcaraz has thrown for 733 yards this season, while Novak, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 17 catches for 299 yards. North Valley Baptist's Mena Otovo leads the league in rushing yards with 444.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Woodside Priory takes on Mark Bermudez's team. At the moment, the Panthers are in first, while the Eagles are in fourth.
Anzar and the Bulldogs played the closest game in the league this week, with Anzar eventually emerging with a 36-34 victory. Marcos Galvan ran for 167 yards during the win.
