A Region 8 recap October 1, 2013
Commerce moved up to 293 from 357 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in A Region 8. The Tigers were able to move up by topping George Walton Academy 31-21.
Athens Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Spartans vanquished Lakeview Academy 35-7 earlier in the week.
Hebron Christian Academy's Conner Holliday and Jacob Harper have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holliday has thrown for 674 yards this season, while Harper, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 11 catches for 223 yards. The Bulldogs' Stanley Williams leads the league in rushing yards with 233.
A big matchup in A Region 8 this week will be when Athens Academy takes on Prince Avenue Christian. Michael Gunn's team is currently in third, while the Wolverines are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Lions and George Walton Academy face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Hebron Christian Academy comes in having scored 75 this season, while Don Williams' team has scored 60. Kevin Shaffer's team scored 0 points last week as it lost to Pinecrest Academy.
The Paladins added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Lions, 37-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
