A District 2 recap September 24, 2013
Bellevue West extended the longest winning streak in A District 2 this week by beating Papillion-LaVista South, 34-24. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Thunderbirds.
Papillion-LaVista took down Benson 49-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. alec ditoro threw for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 27 yards in the win.
He was 14-18 with 0 interception.
Calvin Strong was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 241 yards as Omaha North bested the Titans. Tyrus Harris also contributed to the rushing game with 25 yards on the ground.
Strong was a beast in the backfield as the Vikings topped Lincoln Southwest.
Brad Brazeal provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Michael Huffman's team bested Papillion-LaVista South. He completed 22 passes for 294 yards and also ran for 33 yards. Brazeal's key target this week was Hluchoweckyj, who caught 10 passes for 125 yards.
Hluchoweckyj was the best wideout in the league this week as the Thunderbirds beat Walt Olsen's team. CJ Johnson helped Bellevue West's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 112 yards.
Ditoro put up the best numbers in passing as the Monarchs beat the Bunnies. Ditoro's favorite target this week was jalen allison, who caught 2 passes for 81 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Johnson. The Bellevue West star has 24 catches for 462 yards.
Omaha North's Strong is a mere 71 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 76 carries Strong has accumulated 929 yard this year.
One of A District 2's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Papillion-LaVista and Bellevue West face off next week. Ditoro has thrown for 986 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Ryan Plambeck has plagued opposing QBs to the tune of 2.5 sacks.
As it stands, the Thunderbirds are in second, while Jeff Govier's team is in third.
Bellevue West made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,152 from 1,820. The advance stemmed from a 34-24 victory over Papillion-LaVista South last week.
