Baseball Recap: Amelia Academy Has No Trouble Against Fuqua

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Amelia Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They blew past the Fuqua Falcons 14-6. With that win, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Aiden Long made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Amelia Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Amir Hall and Jacob Creswell did most of the damage at the plate: Hall scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Creswell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kaivin Dowell, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.

Amelia Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Amelia Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Fuqua, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Amelia Academy will host Life Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fuqua, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 4:30 p.m. The last four games the Knights have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
