Ashbrook came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Huss Huskies by a score of 47-39. The win was all the more spectacular given the Greenwave's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Huskies are ranked 99th).
Ashbrook got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jakyra Sadler out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists. Sadler is becoming a predictor of Ashbrook's success: when she posts at least ten assists the team is 4-1 (and 7-10 when she doesn't). Duraejah Hardin was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Sadler wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Ashbrook was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Huss only racked up four assists.
Huss' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Swann, who posted three points in addition to 21 rebounds and five blocks. Swann is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Griffin, who put up six points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
The win got Ashbrook back to even at 11-11. As for Huss, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-6.
