Softball Recap: West Davidson Extends Winning Streak to Three

West Davidson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Thomasville Bulldogs an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Dragons have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gracie Michael was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Michael was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, West Davidson let Mahala Darnell and Meghan Leonard run wild. Darnell went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Leonard scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Leonard continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maci Harris, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

West Davidson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .966. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

West Davidson's record now sits at 12-6. As for Thomasville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Davidson will square off against Ledford at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Thomasville, they will face off against South Davidson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
