The Marshall Redhawks will face off against the Fowlerville Gladiators at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marshall's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Fowlerville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Marshall needed a bit of extra time to put away Western. They walked away with an 11-8 win over the Panthers. 11 seems to be a good number for the Redhawks as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Marshall got a massive performance out of Max Gillum, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That double was Gillum's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Stealy, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, while Fowlerville put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Haslett. The Gladiators were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Vikings. The game marked the Gladiators' most dominant win of the season so far.
Wyatt Soli made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Soli was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ryan Perras was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Erik Helminen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
The victory (which was Marshall's third in a row) raised their record to 7-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fowlerville, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Fowlerville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. It's a different story for Fowlerville, though, as they've only averaged .305. Will they be able to contain Marshall's hitters?
