Swain County is 2-8 against Hayesville since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Maroon Devils will head out to take on the Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Swain County made easy work of Rosman and carried off a 12-1 win. The Maroon Devils haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Will Holden made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trent Jones, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Noah Shuler was another key player, earning three RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Hayesville got the win against Hiwassee Dam on Friday by a conclusive 15-1.
Adrian Fuentes was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Landon Cheeks, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Hayesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Swain County's record is now 5-8. As for Hayesville, their record now sits at 10-4.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Swain County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Hayesville struggles in that department as they've averaged .513. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Swain County might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Hayesville in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Maroon Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
