The Robinson Rockets will square off against the Aubrey Chaparrals at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Robinson 2.7, Aubrey 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Robinson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Ingleside. Considering the Rockets have won 22 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Raelynn Van Zee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed nine innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Van Zee was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Reese Tate and Lexi Rosillo did most of the damage at the plate: Tate went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Rosillo got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Tate has posted since back in April. Brenleigh Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Robinson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ingleside only posted a batting average of .188.
Meanwhile, Aubrey came tearing into Thursday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Tigers. That's two games straight that the Chaparrals have won by exactly two runs.
Mya Cherry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Aubrey saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Molly Reid, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Aubrey's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 33-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Robinson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 37-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Robinson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Aubrey struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
