Basketball Recap: Calumet Christian Takes a Loss

Calumet Christian suffered their biggest loss since December 12, 2024 on Monday. They had to suffer through a 93-65 loss at the hands of the Calumet New Tech Warriors. If the Patriots were looking for revenge after losing 74-65 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Calumet Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josiah Kpandeyenge went 7-for-12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Those 15 points gave Kpandeyenge a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolton Foutz, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Calumet Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Calumet New Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Johnny Hudson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 33 points and 13 rebounds. Hudson's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Eric Allen, who went 9-for-16 en route to 25 points and three steals.

Calumet Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points over those games. As for Calumet New Tech, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-7.

Calumet Christian has already played their next game, a 63-43 loss against Lakecrest Baptist on the 6th. As for Calumet New Tech, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-45 defeat against Illiana Christian on the 6th.
