The NorthWood Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Goshen RedHawks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, NorthWood made easy work of Plymouth and carried off a 16-6 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by ten runs or more this season.
Chloe Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Payton Sears was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
NorthWood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plymouth struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Goshen, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Wawasee by a score of 7-4 on Monday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the RedHawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Like NorthWood, Goshen also got a great game from a two-way player: Abi Blankenship. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. Blankenship was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
Blankenship wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emily Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Diaz has posted since back in April.
NorthWood has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Goshen, their record now sits at 5-16.
Goshen's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: NorthWood has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Goshen, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given NorthWood's sizable advantage in that area, the RedHawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
NorthWood took their win against Goshen in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
