The Gretna Hawks will take on the Glenvar Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gretna comes in on five and Glenvar on four.
Gretna had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 28-27 win over Floyd County.
Gretna had a senior duo take command as Amare Gunn gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns and Melvin Wooden rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Glenvar put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Patrick County 56-0 at home. Given Glenvar's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Patrick County is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
