The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 39-32 to Smith Valley. Mineral County has not had much luck with Smith Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Mineral County had strong showings from Chesney Wilson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Jayona Kimmins, who scored six points along with 16 rebounds. Those 16 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Jazmin Serrato was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Mineral County bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Smith Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mineral County is on the road again on Friday and play against Virginia City at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Virginia City is ranked 93rd, while Mineral County is ranked 88th). As for Smith Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Sage Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Sage Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
