The Fike Demons had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over SouthWest Edgecombe. That's another feather in the cap for Fike, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Connie Pleasants, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Jalia Daniels, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the defeat, SouthWest Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: K'Deidra (KD) Collins scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Moore Mackenzie, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Fike pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points per game. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.
Fike will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southern Nash at 6:30 p.m. on December 27th. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will head out on the road to face off against Farmville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Farmville Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday.
