The West Mecklenburg Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They lost to Chambers at home by a decisive 75-59 margin. West Mecklenburg has not had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
West Mecklenburg's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Josiah Pratt, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Cam Higgins who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. It was the first time this season that Pratt scored 15 or more points. Tayshaun Jones was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chambers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Markus Kerr, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Maurio Hanson II, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
West Mecklenburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Chambers, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Mecklenburg will stay at home for another game and welcome the Lions at 7:15 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully West Charlotte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for Chambers, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Hough will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Cougars are ranked 24th).
