The First Academy Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Crooms Academy Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. First Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
First Academy posted their biggest victory since January 4th on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 41-20 margin over Orangewood Christian. The score was all tied up 8-8 at the break, but First Academy was the (much) better team in the second half.
Molly Beliveau was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Neiford, who scored two points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Crooms Academy had to endure a 13-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Holy Cross Lutheran Academy 51-5 on the road. Crooms Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Crooms Academy found their leader in underclassman Erin Hassaballah, who scored 23 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hassaballah has scored at least a third of Crooms Academy's points. Zoe Fulgencio was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The victory got First Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Crooms Academy, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-11.
Everything came up roses for First Academy against Crooms Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 57-6 win. With First Academy ahead 43-1 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
