The Leto Falcons's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Gaither Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. One thing working in Leto's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Leto walked away with it. They managed a 57-52 win over the Wildcats on Saturday. Given Leto's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Wharton is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leto had a senior duo take command as Daniel Delgardo, III scored 25 points along with two steals and Derek Delgardo, jr scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. Delgardo, jr has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 21 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Finn O'Neill, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Gaither's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 68-35 loss at the hands of Largo. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gaither has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jovani Robinson, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dante Sanchez, who scored nine points.
Leto is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. As for Gaither, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Thursday as the pair are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Leto hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 61.3 points per game. However, it's not like Gaither struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Leto won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, slipping by Gaither 47-46. Will Leto repeat their success, or does Gaither have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
