While the Viewmont Vikings couldn't quite beat the Box Elder Bees on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt last Wednesday. Viewmont fell just short of the Bees by a score of 47-45. Viewmont was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bees apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Viewmont's loss came despite strong showings from Aubrey Mulitalo and Mary Carr. Mulitalo scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Carr dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kristina Gunnell was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven steals.
Even though they lost, Viewmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Box Elder only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Kaydence Barber was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals for Box Elder. Barber has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Vranes, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Viewmont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Box Elder, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5.
Viewmont will face off against the Wildcats at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Woods Cross is ranked 57th, while the Vikings are ranked 49th). As for Box Elder, they will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Northridge and the Bees are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
