Even though the Fairborn Skyhawks have not done well against the West Carrollton Pirates recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Fairborn sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-59 win over West Carrollton. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Fairborn has posted yet this season.
Fairborn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taiyou Williams led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds. Sean Townsend was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with four steals.
Fairborn has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for West Carrollton, they bumped their record down to 5-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairborn will face off against Butler at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Butler has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for West Carrollton, they will head out on the road to face off against Piqua at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
