The Newport Buffaloes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They fell to Line Mountain 49-45. Newport was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Line Mountain apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Newport lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ruben Moreno, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Landon Zaring was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Newport has been struggling recently, as they've lost 14 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Line Mountain, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport will face off against Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Line Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against Susquenita at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Susquenita is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
